Make-Up Tips for Achieving a More Youthful Look

  1. Choose your foundation and apply it correctly. You should select a foundation with added moisturizers and sunscreen to not only protect your skin but give it a dewy glow. You foundation should match your true skin color as closely as possible and should be applied with a light touch. A concealer in a shade slightly lighter than your natural skin tone can be applied lightly to downplay fine facial lines. Translucent powder designed for mature skin should be applied once to set your makeup. Avoid reapplying powder throughout the day since heavy layers of powder can accentuate wrinkles. Foundation Don’t use more base foundation as you get older, it can settle into wrinkles and make them more pronounced. The less you apply, the longer it will last. Avoid heavy powder – this can create a cake-y effect. Use a light liquid makeup with a moisturizer in it- if your favorite foundation doesn’t have moisturizer in it, add a little moisturizer to it.

  2. Go lighter on eye makeup. As aging occurs, the tissue surrounding the eyes begins to fall due to the effects of gravity which can make eyes look small and droopy. Dark, heavy eye makeup can make eyes look even smaller. Now may be a good time to choose a lighter shade of eyeliner. Black and other dark liner shades tend to be too harsh. Likewise, lighter eye shadow shades tend to open up the eye and look more flattering. Use a lighter touch with the mascara wand to avoid making the lids look too heavy.Place darker color close to the upper lashes and lighter toward the crease of the eye lid. If you use liquid eyeliner for drama, keep it on the upper lid only, very thin and close to the lash. Can be one of the most useful products you can use. It evens tone, conceals and contours. If you are using a concealer in coordination with foundation, always apply it after the foundation so you know which areas of your face need more coverage. If you apply the concealer first, it will be wiped away when you blend your foundation. When covering under dark circles, blemishes, or splotchy patches with concealer, set your concealer with loose translucent powder. It will keep any oily shine to a minimum, and set the concealer so it will crease less and last longer.Avoid very dark, matte shadow shades on eyelids.Go light with mascara on upper lashes. Apply only to tips at first. Allow lashes to dry between coats; this thickens the lash without adding clumps. Use only 1 coat of mascara on lower lashes, if needed at all.
  3. Choose a lighter shade of lipstick. As skin aging occurs, lips tend to become less full. A darker shade of lipstick tends to magnify thinning lips while a well chosen lighter shade of lipstick can enhance and make them look fuller. It may also be helpful to use a lip brush to line your lips to prevent the color from bleeding.Use a lip liner to line, shape and fill in the lips, forming a base for the lipstick. Lip liner should not stand out. Blend it into the color of the lipstick you select.Applying lipstick with a lip brush will create a smoother effect, last longer and afford more control; the overall look is cleaner and more polished. Use moisturizing lip shades in sheer, light, rose and bright pinkish shades.
